Frequently Asked Questions

Q Two glass shops told me that it is not possible to repair my foggy thermal units. They both said that the moisture cannot be removed, and the units have to be replaced. How do I know that your system will work?

People laughed at the Wright brothers when they claimed that people could fly. Similarly, many people think that windows can't be fixed. Yes, they can. Our authorized use of this Patented defogged process has been in use in Ottawa in Canada for 20 years. The windows repaired 20 years ago are still moisture free and doing fine. Defog Windows has started to market this process in Ireland.

Q. Can all units be restored?

The sooner the window is repaired, the better the results. All standard windows can have the moisture removed. However, if the unit has been wet for a long time, mineral deposits may have formed on the inside on the glass surfaces. Most of these are removable with our patent process. If the mineral deposit have been on the glass for an extended period they may have etched the inside of the glass surface. This is a permanent condition that, so far, cannot be reversed. Our trained service personnel will be able to advise you of the condition and reparability of your windows.

Q.After you have finished doing my glass units, will they stay dry permanently?

The simple answer is yes; however, our process is a permanent cure, not an instant one. We use liquid cleaners of various types to clean inside your units and this liquid, together with the moisture already inside the unit, has to vent out before you will have a completely dry unit. Depending on the location of the unit in the home (does it get lots of sunshine for example?) And the ambient temperature, it can take several days, or even weeks to totally dry outt.

Q.Will my windows look as 'good as new' after they are serviced?

The window glass will look much better with the water removed. However we cannot eliminate all signs of age. The glass may have some water spots caused by outside weather. We will, however, point out, to you any likely residue of mineral deposits that will be left inside the unit when we are finished.

Q.How much inconvenience will I experience while my windows are being serviced?

The on-site repair is done without removing the glass. There is usually no dust or mess, as almost all of our work is done on the exterior of the unit. If we need to work from the inside we will need access to the window.

PRELIMINARY REPORT
Subject: Thermal performance of double glazed windows.

Background:
Double glazed window panes consists of two glass panes of identical dimension sealed at the edge, and with dry gas ,usually air between them, This structural unit is a clear window which at the same time provides a considerable thermal insulation. Double glazed windows units constructed according test to ASTM test specification E 773 and E774 can usually be depended on to perform without problems for many years. However leakage of one sort or another, moisture, discolouration and foreign material can sometimes appear between the two external panes .although this degrades the thermal performance, the aesthetic degradation is more serious consideration, necessitating the replacement of the offending unit.

Restoration of defective double glazed units:
A method has been proposed which claims to restore defective double glazed units to essentially their performance, thus obviating the trouble and expense of replacement. In brief, the method consists of installing patented Amanak micro- filters over two small holes drilling in one of the panes. Subsequent temperature variations on either or both sides of the window act to slowly remove the interior moisture between the panes of glass. Experimental tests and Verification: A closely controlled thermal test chamber can provide an adjustable predetermine thermal environment on one side of the double glazed unit. The chamber was designed to rapidly bring one of the window to constant and uniform condition which can be closely and continuously monitor and record, a series of further results are taken over a wide range of temperature to completely characterize the thermal properties of the double glazed unit.

Conclusion:
Careful and repeatable experimental results have shown that the Amanak filter and their recommended application procedure operate as claimed. The filter restores the window thermal performance to its original state.

Summary of Results:
The complete numerical data are shown in the attached laboratory record. They give the times; conditions and test results over the entire specified range. These are initiated by the researcher and may be notarized if required. In summary, the thermal performance of a new double glazed unit was measured and recorded. Following this, two holes were drilled following the agreed and specified procedure, and the thermal measurements were repeated. Next the holes were equipped with patented Amanak Filters following the procedure recommended by its manufacturer. The measurements showed that the Amanak filters restored the double glazed unit to its original thermal state. Additional tests showed that without the Amanak Filters, the presence of the small holes degraded the performance of the window to a small but unacceptable degree. The measurements were again repeated with the Amanak filters installed and the windows thermal performance was identical to the initial performance the holes were introduced.
